Types of Cloud Computing Services

types of cloud computingMore large companies are competing through different types of cloud computing solutions. While some of the first cloud-based systems were private, many of the popular cloud computing systems today are public and hybrid.

Different types of cloud computing

It is important to identify what makes these different types of cloud computing solutions unique. As the application for cloud computing evolves, more companies and individuals will take advantage of cloud. The IT industry has grown exponentially over the past several decades, and cloud computing offers more than a “one size fits all” solution to common issues companies face.

When selecting a cloud-based system, a user must prioritize which features are most important. Security, efficiency, team collaboration, and storage are all things to take into consideration when researching a clout that is right for yo

  1. Public Cloud Computing

Using a shared infrastructure, public cloud computing has been brought to the masses by major companies such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Amazon. Perhaps the most affordable and accessible version of the cloud is the public cloud. This type of cloud is generally accessible through an Internet connection and allows the user to visit a URL and login to the cloud. Before the cloud was made public, the infrastructure to utilize cloud computing required substantial capital and was beyond the reach of most small companies and individuals. Another advantage of a public cloud system is that someone else must manage it.Since the access point is via Internet connection, users don’t have to worry about updating local software or local hard drive failures when working on the cloud.Advantages of Public Cloud Computing? The main advantage of public cloud computing is affordability. Many of the largest technology companies offering public cloud access have a free subscription available. Websites like Trello offer teams the ability to collaborate on documents, receive notifications, post messages, and save files free of charge.

The availability of public clouds makes it easier for global teams to work on the same project. Having someone else manage the cloud is another advantage.

When working in the cloud, users do not have to update software or deal with local hard drive failures. Everything can be accessed via Internet connection. This can also save time that would otherwise be spent maintaining local servers. These days, many offices are switching their Microsoft applications over to the cloud-based “Office 365” program. Employees can visit the Microsoft 365 URL, and login to their account to access Outlook email, calendars, document storage, and much more.

  2. Private Cloud Computing

Some of the earliest versions of cloud computing were created with limited access for private use. Some of the early pioneers of cloud computing such as IBM, military organizations, and other government agencies developed the technology as a means to host their internal programs and data.In 1972, IBM created a private cloud so that data could be entered remotely. While it is much different than today’s cloud computing systems, it was the first time a private technology company invested in what is today known as “the cloud.”The primary difference between a public and private cloud is access. A private cloud is used to store and distribute applications internally while a public cloud is available to host multiple organizations with a URL login page as the entry point.Advantages of Private Cloud Computing:If lack of capital is not a problem, developing a private cloud infrastructure is the most secure way to host internal files. Large companies and governmental agencies that have very specific needs may not be comfortable using public cloud systems.

For many, it is worth the investment required to build a custom private cloud system. Organizations that have a large global presence such as major airlines are pioneering the future of private cloud applications.

  3. Hybrid Cloud Computing

Hybrid clouds integrate aspects of both public and private clouds to meet the needs of an organization. Since a fully private cloud can be expensive to develop, hybrid cloud computing systems allow companies to store sensitive data on a small scale private cloud, while running other applications on a public cloud. This is a great solution for e-commerce website, financial and banking sites, and other organizations who have sensitive data they need to store on an internal private structure.Advantages of Hybrid Cloud ComputingFlexibility and scalability are the biggest advantages of choosing a hybrid cloud computing system. The hybrid cloud infrastructure gives the client the security of a private cloud scaled down to the data they need stored. It also gives them the low cost and efficiency of the public cloud system. Some organizations that operate a website with login privileges but also maintain sensitive data should consider a hybrid cloud computing system. In conclusion, cloud based computing is changing technology. With so many large companies investing in cloud solutions, new innovations are likely to increase each year.

Based on recent trends, the future of cloud computing looks bright. It is safe to conclude that every aspect of technology will be somehow linked to a cloud-based infrastructure in the years to come. Gaming, networking, email, calendars, and storage are all major components of our technology that is shifting to the cloud more every day. Where will we be in 5 years from now? Where will be in 20 years from now?

By examining the exponential advances in cloud computing since IBM launched the first system in 1972, we can see that many improvements made in recent years are in part due to cloud computing systems.
